Advocates of reforming the Endangered
Species Act hope passage of a
narrowly drawn Senate bill amending
the act could pave the way for
comprehensive overhaul in the future.
The Senate Environment and Public
Works Committee on June 29 approved a
bill to allow federal agencies more
time to designate critical habitat,
clear up a backlog of recovery plans
and require greater public
participation in the process.
The committee passed the bill, S.
1100, by unanimous voice vote.
