Two bills dealing with federal funding of Columbia Basin salmon recovery
projects won approval from the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee
on Thursday.
A measure by Sen. Gordon Smith, R-Ore., and Ron Wyden, D-Ore., would
create a $25 million per year federal grant program to help irrigators
install and improve fish screens on water diversion facilities. A similar
bill passed the House last year.
